Hello Kitty Easter Eggs Tutorial

Supplies needed:
Hard boiled eggs
Black marker
Glitter foam
Yellow pipe cleaner

We were able to find all of the materials we used (with the exception of the eggs) at our local dollar store. They will have everything you need in their craft supply aisle, making this a craft you can do even on the tightest of budgets.

1. First, lay your egg on its side.
2. Begin creating the face by drawing two eyes on your egg. Hello Kitty has eyes that are far set and oval shape. You can make these with a black marker quite easily.
2. Snip off a small piece of yellow pipe cleaner to use as a nose. Just a small scrap of it is all you need. Glue the pipe cleaner segment to the face of your Hello Kitty to act as her nose.
3. Using your marker, create her whiskers. Hello Kitty usually has three lines per side of her face, and they are very uniform in length.
4. Add something to the top of your Hello Kitty’s hair to give her some flare. We cut out a simple flower from our glitter foam. You can do the same, or use a sticker of a flower or bow if you wish. Use a dab of glue to stick the embellishment of your choice on the egg.

Your Hello Kitty Easter Egg is now ready to be displayed. These cute eggs as you can see are so easy to make, and a fun way to try something new when decorating your eggs this year.

Give these Hello Kitty Easter Eggs a try with your family. They are too cute to pass up!

If you can’t find a white pumpkin, feel free to color a regular pumpkin with white spray paint. You can do this with both real and fake pumpkins and they still look great!

monday 017

1. Lay your sheet of lace butterflies on a piece of newspaper. Apply a coat of black spray paint directly to the sheet.
2. Allow the butterflies time to dry. During this time, you can wipe the pumpkin clean so the butterflies will adhere well.
3. Peel the butterflies from the sheet. Take your finger and apply a thin layer of craft glue to the back of each. This will help them adhere better to the pumpkin as well.
4. Press the butterfly to the pumpkin, making sure you apply them firmly. Be sure to press the entire butterfly, especially the edges.
5. Repeat the process until the pumpkin is covered. You can arrange the lace butterflies however you wish.

Your lovely lace pumpkin is now ready to be displayed. If you wish you can add some black ribbon to the stem, or give it a sprinkling of glitter. Either way, it is a fun spin on the traditional pumpkin, and is sure to add some spirit of the season to your home.

DIY Bloom Wreath

Supplies needed:
Grapevine wreath
Spray paint (optional)
Silk flowers
Chipboard letters
Hot glue, glue gun

We found the wreath already painted at our local Hobby Lobby store for under $4. If you can’t locate one, just use a grapevine wreath from your local craft or dollar store and paint it the color of your choice. The chipboard letters are available right now at Target in the dollar section, or you can find them at your local craft store as well.

1. Begin by painting your grapevine wreath if needed. If not, you can skip ahead to the next step.
2. Start winding the stems of your silk flowers into the grapevine wreath. Secure them in place with the hot glue. We added two stems to ours to keep it simple, but feel free to add however many appeal to you.
3. Take your chipboard letters and decide what wording you are going to use. We used a simple “BLOOM” but again, feel free to make your own variation.
4. Apply glue to the back of each letter and press it to the wreath. Hold the letters in place until they are dry.
5. Add a ribbon for hanging or just hang on a wreath hook.

See how simple and sweet this BLOOM wreath can be? Gather your supplies and try crafting your own!

How to Make a Delicious Breakfast Bake with a Hashbrown Crust

How to Make a Delicious Breakfast Bake with a Hashbrown Crust

This breakfast bake is simple enough for a lazy Sunday morning breakfast but is special enough to wake up the family on any holiday as  well.  It would make a fabulous breakfast for Easter morning. While there are several steps, the final result is well worth it- thick and hearty filling over top a crunchy potato crust.  Made from simple, common  breakfast items but put together in a new way that everyone will love. You could also sub sausage in for bacon, and add in some delicious veggies like- peppers and onions, or try your favorite shredded cheese blend to make it your own. This recipe can totally be adjusted to fit with any family! You can always double or triple a recipe and make multiples to feed a large crowd! Add a side of fresh fruit and a little juice or milk and you would have a fantastic breakfast spread that even the kids will love! That is always a win in my book! Check out this yummy recipe and let me know what you think about it in the comments below!

8 large eggs
2 cups shredded hash browns
6 pieces of cooked bacon
1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
salt and pepper to taste
*Other meats can be substituted as well as no meat at all. You can also toss in different veggies!

Cook  bacon using whatever method you prefer.
I like to lay my bacon strips on a baking sheet with a lip, and place in a cold oven, turn oven to  400 degrees and bake until crisp, approximately 18-20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
In a medium casserole dish- mix together hash browns, ½ of shredded cheese, and vegetable oil until evenly combined.
Press into bottom and halfway up sides of pan.
Bake potato mixture in oven for 15-20 minutes until crisp and golden brown

Drop oven temperature to 350 degrees
In a separate bowl whisk; eggs, bacon, remaining cheddar cheese, salt and pepper- pour into baked “crust”

Bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, until cooked through.
Allow to cool for 10 minutes, and serve.

Dollar Store DIY: Valentine’s Day Cupcake Lights

Supplies needed:
Valentine’s Day themed cupcake cups/liners, large
White cupcake cups/liners, small
Strand of white twinkle lights

We were able to find all of these supplies at our local dollar store, making the final cost of this project just $3. Plus, we had tons of leftover cupcake cups perfect for using for our baking needs.

1. Begin by turning your patterned cupcake cups inside out. You want for the decorated side to be on the inside of the cup, and the plain white to be on the outside.
2. Unravel your strand of twinkle lights. Use a pencil to poke a hole in the center of each cup. Place the large cup over each light bulb until it is snug in place. For extra ruffle, you can apply several cups if you wish. For our sample picture, we used two large cups per bulb.
3. Add an inner layer to the cup by poking a hole in the center of the smaller, plain cupcake cup. Add it to the center of the larger cup, sliding it over the bulb until it is also firmly in place.

Three steps and you are done! Now all you need to do is plug your strand in and watch it glow. These Valentine’s Day themed lights look lovely draped on a mantel, hanging over an entry way, or anywhere else you can use a pop of color and light. How to Decide if Family Cloth is Right For You

The Centisble Cloth Series
Undecided: How to Decide if Family Cloth is Right For You

Your family may be very earth and budget conscious. Perhaps you use reusable water bottles. Maybe your little ones run around in cloth diapers and you wipe the sauce off your hands with cloth napkins. However, maybe the one thing you are not sold on yet is family cloth, or reusable toilet paper. No matter how earth and budget conscious you want to be, you just can’t get yourself to go all of the way yet. Deciding if family cloth is right for you can be a hard decision, because it is one where you would need to get the whole family on board. If you are undecided, below you will find some ways to decide if family cloth is right for you and your household. By making the switch, you can potentially save hundreds of dollars a year. That savings may just be enough to make you change your mind, but below you will find a little more information to help you be best informed. Take a look!

How to Decide if Family Cloth is Right For You:

1. Consider the number of people in your family.
This is important to consider since the more people you have in your family, the more toilet paper you will use. Especially if you have younger children, since they tend to take way more toilet paper than they need! If you have four or more people in your household, family cloth can offer a huge savings.

2. Think about your laundry habits.
Family cloths will need to be washed in hot water within a few days of use. If you are already doing several loads of laundry a week, it won’t be a big deal to toss a load of family cloths in while you are washing your towels.

3. Consider your comfort.
Many people prefer the feeling of a soft cloth over toilet paper. It does not leave tiny pieces of paper behind in those “hidden places” and gives a nice clean feel. Just try it once and see if the feeling of cloth is more appealing to you than paper.

4. See who is on board.
It may be as simple as polling your family and seeing who is willing to try it. If the majority is, why not give it a go? If there is no one interested, you may need to offer an incentive, such as a special family outing or purchase made from all of the money you will save.

5. Know that it is not all or nothing.
If guests come over, you can still put toilet paper out if you don’t want them to feel uncomfortable. It does not have to be all or nothing. If your child has friends over or your mother in law is staying with you, you can always offer toilet paper. Your family however can continue to do as they are comfortable with cloth.

6. Think about your bathroom habits.
While maybe not the most pleasant task, think about how much your bathroom is used. If you are  a stay at home mom with kids at home, your bathroom gets used more than a couple who works 12 hours a day away without children. If your bathroom is getting heavy traffic, cloth options are ideal for you!

7. Remember, you can always go back.
Why not give yourself a trial period of two weeks to see if family cloth works for you. If not, no worries, You can always go back. But at least you know you gave it a try. Two weeks is a perfect amount of time to see if cloth works for you as far as usage and the laundry schedule. Give it two weeks and see what happens.

So, what are your thoughts on family cloth? Do you think it is something your family would be on board with? Just ask yourself these basic questions and see if a two week trial may be ideal for you. Family cloth can save you money each year as you won’t be running out anymore for toilet paper. Plus, the environment will love you too. Consider family cloth with your family and see what sort of savings you can come up!
